Skinner Family Bible
The Skinner family Bible was obtained by Silas and Anne Skinner when they first settled on the Skinner Ranch outside of current day Jordon Valley Oregon. The Bible was published by the William Flint Company in 1872 as a Pictorial Home Bible with the complete Bible and sections on the history of the bible, additional chapters, and history of Eastern Customs, Animals of the Bible, Plants of the Bible, and holy lands. The Art within the bible depicts many biblical scenes and additional historical items. A Family section exists in the bible with original additions from Anne and Silas with family photos. Birth records were kept for the family. The Callow family pictures and relatives of Silas are also enclosed. The Bible is a bound leather volume with two steel clamps to secure the volume. The gold inscription on the Bible cover lists "Mr & Mrs Silas Skinner, Trout Creek, Idaho Territory".
The Bible was passed on to the estate of Ms Edna M. Skinner and upon her death was willed and passed on to Mrs Esther Emmel in December 1984. The Bible over time had fell into disrepair and Esther and Don Emmel had the bible repaired, the clamps reattached and binding repaired. In the rebinding process Ester asked for a sheet to be inserted into the bible to identify the family , and attached original documents to the first page. The bible was then passed to Dr Michael K Skinner in August of 2009 along with other Skinner family documents for documentation on the web site.
